Relationships: Form-Glazing-Firing

This class will emphasize creative problem solving. Students will explore various methods of making functional and sculptural forms by combining hand-built and thrown parts.   There will be daily demonstrations featuring different approaches to handles, spouts, feet and trays. We will look critically at pots to assess form, surface, volume, and energy. Firings will be in wood fired kiln(s) using natural ash and/or shino glazed surfaces. Currently there is a Noborigama kiln and an Anagama, hopefully, will be finished for the workshop. A variety of interesting surfaces will result by using unconventional techniques of glazing, drying and stacking shino pots.  Natural ash forms will be creatively tumble stacked to respond well to flame and ash patterns.  There will be ample opportunity to experience and enjoy the local attractions, cuisine, and wines.
